Description

This urn was created from an unusually large piece of Cherry Laurel. This wood grows thru-out the South and is a great wood for creating my work. This piece was rough turned and then I completed the drying process in my vacuum kiln which removes the excess water and stabilizes the wood. The piece was returned to the lathe for the final hollowing and the final shaping. It is then sanded and 10+ coats of hand buffed lacquer finish is applied. The finial was turned from cherry laurel and was fumed with ammonia vapor to achieve the deep red coloring. The finial and body of the urn were fitted with a pair of gold plated threaded rings to secure the urn contents.
