Description

This urn was turned from a beautiful piece of Cherry Laurel. The green wood is turned and hollowed to a rough shape. The rough turning is then placed in the vacuum kiln for drying to remove the excess moisture. It is then returned to the lathe for turning and hollowing to its final shape. The turning is then sanded and is ready for the detail work. I used a process called pyrography with a custom brand to do most of the detail work and then completed the detailing with a power carver with an assortment of bits. The piece was then given 10+ coats of hand buffed lacquer finish. The finial was also turned from Cherry laurel and was ebonized. The finial is slipped into the trim collar and sealed with adhesive to secure the contents. Very elegant form.
